Zosia and the mysterious footprints

Zosia and the mysterious footprints
The early morning smelled of rain and grass. Zosia went out into the yard with her backpack. Inside she had a magnifying glass and a small notebook. She really liked to look for traces of wild animals. She saw small paw prints on the wet tiles. The footprints went from the wicket straight into the park. She whispered quietly: "Who ran this way and to where?" She zipped up her jacket and moved along the path further. The park was quiet as in a dream. Sparrows snoozed on the branch of a tall poplar tree. The footsteps turned over the pond and disappeared into the sand. Zosia knelt down and blew on the sand. A small blue bell flashed under the sand. - 'That's from the cat's collar,' she whispered. Next to it, the prints were larger and rounder. They did not match the cat or the dog. A hedgehog came out of the bushes and snorted. - Hello, spiky wanderer - she smiled at him. The hedgehog sniffed the bell and disappeared into the hedge. Zosia moved on, under the wooden footbridge. The pond was smooth and the ducks were silent. Suddenly a plank crackled quietly underfoot. Two golden dots flashed from the dark bank. Something moved in the shadow of the footbridge. Zosia held her breath and said: "Hello?" Then she heard a quiet meow just behind her.
