Did You Know?

Whispers from Room Number 17

Whispers from Room Number 17
Lena has always considered her school to be a rather ordinary place. Just a typical building with yellow walls, slightly dilapidated desks and a creaky floor in the corridor. But one afternoon, when she stayed longer to prepare a poster for an environmental competition, she started to hear strange whispering. At first she thought it was the other students joking around, but when she turned around behind her, she was alone in the empty room 17. - 'Hmmm, I wonder what marker she's going to choose today,' hissed a thin voice from under the tabletop. Lena stood still, listening to the sounds. A bunch of coloured markers lay on the desk. One of them, a green one, seemed to be trembling gently. The girl had a thousand questions, but at that moment she heard the door close with a quiet slam. The voices fell silent, and Lena was left alone with the impression pulsing through the air that something extraordinary had just occurred. In the days that followed, she couldn't stop thinking about it. The objects seemed to be watching her more closely than ever. One night, as she was returning from an extra-curricular activity, she saw a light in the window of Room 17. Intrigued, she walked closer. Through the glass, she noticed that a selection of objects were gathered in the middle - a sponge, a history book, even a plastic ruler and a globe. They all seemed to come to life, whispering communicatively in the semi-darkness. Lena couldn't believe her eyes. Should she go inside? Maybe she should call an adult? But something inside told her that this meeting was just for her. Suddenly the door opened slowly with a quiet creak. From inside the room she heard the voice of the board: - Lena, we were already waiting for you. You have to help us...
