Did You Know?

Whisper of a drawer

Whisper of a drawer
Zosia liked to sit in her grandmother's kitchen. On the table were spoons, a cup and an old clock. The rain tapped quietly on the cool glass of the window. Zosia was drawing a cat and smiling with joy. Suddenly the drawer whispered: Hey, can you hear me? Zosia froze and looked at the handle. The handle vibrated slightly and stopped again. - I can hear you - whispered Zosia uncertainly. - I'm Drawer One and we're in trouble - she croaked. The clock tapped and said: Time is running out, Zosia. The cup chimed: The cocoa spoon is gone! The big spoon sighed: Cocoa is sad without it. At the very bottom of the drawer lies an old map. It will show you the way if you touch it with your finger. But first say the password that everyone knows. - What password should I say? - Zosia asked. All the objects suddenly fell silent and stopped moving. Only raindrops could be heard in the kitchen. Zosia took a deep breath and pulled out a drawer. On the bottom lay a folded piece of paper with dots on it. The card moved and winked at Zosia. - 'Touch me gently,' she asked in a low, paper-like voice. Zosia raised her finger, but there was a clatter from the corridor. The pantry door swung open and the air crackled. The clock trembled: Time is running, now or never! Something like a silver point flashed under the pad. The map unrolled itself and pulled Zosia's finger. From the dark pantry someone whispered: Give the password ... now.
