Under a glassy sky Vesperium
If it hadn't been for the renovation of the Spokojna Street, Olive would probably never have noticed the sideways, forgotten path behind the barred gate. It was June, the evenings were getting warmer and the holiday boredom was making even the old observatory ruins on the hill look interesting. She and Alex, her best friend since kindergarten, decided to ignore the 'No Trespassing' sign and check out what was behind the door, which someone had secured with only one rusty padlock.
The observatory looked as if it had been consumed by years - the plaster was peeling off the walls and the dome was cracked and dirty. The sounds coming from inside sometimes resembled the whisper of leaves, sometimes the sound of the wind. When Olive found a trapdoor on the floor with a scorched symbol resembling the constellation Orion, her heart beat faster. The floor gave way under their weight, revealing a steep staircase leading downwards, where it was as cool and quiet as a tomb.
After a few minutes of walking in the dark, their phone torch came across something they hadn't expected to find: a huge hall whose vaulted ceiling resembled the surface of glass and whose floor shone like polished obsidian. Short, glittering strands of light floated in the air, rising slowly and disappearing as soon as they tried to get closer.
In the middle of the chamber was a structure resembling an astral clock - a clock that moved without any apparent mechanism. When Alex touched one of its hands, the whole room lit up with a riot of colours, and a sound like the distant ringing of a bell echoed under the vaulted ceiling. Suddenly the air thickened, the vault took on depth, showing swirling galaxies and moving stars.
Before they could speak, a figure emerged from the depths of the gloom, its shadows flitting along the walls as if it were not quite real. She held out her hand, pointing towards the astral clock.
Olive felt a rush of adrenaline, and Alex squeezed her hand. Who or what was standing in front of them? Their hearts pounded like crazy as the figure spoke in a voice that sounded like the simultaneous whispering of many people:
"For those who have come here, there is a choice that will change everything. Answer: do you dare to see a world that no language can describe?"
