Trouble in the school attic
It was a Tuesday evening when Karolina, Michał and Kuba decided to stay after lessons and try to fix the school stage before the big show. School No. 47, a monumental edifice on Klonowa Street, was turning into a veritable maze of silent corridors and locked doors after hours.
The last rays of sunlight streamed in through the dirty windows of the theatre hall, reflecting off the layers of dust that floated everywhere like ghosts of old school performances. Karolina enthusiastically brandished a hammer, pretending to be the owner of an innovative renovation company, while Michal and Kuba argued over who would be the first to slip on the spilled energy drink from the rehearsal.
- 'Do you really think the loft could be haunted? - Michal asked, winking at Karolina.
- Not haunted, just mysterious! - she corrected her with a smile, showing her a find: an old, rusty doorknob found under the stage. The handle had strange initials engraved on it: "P.S.Z.".
Not a moment had passed when they heard a quiet knocking overhead. Kuba, as Kuba does, chuckled:
- Probably a rat. Or the ghost of the old caretaker! I heard he could run faster than many a student on a test.
Instead of being frightened, all three felt a surge of excitement. Michael found the barely visible staircase leading to the school attic in the corner. Silently, with a torch from his phone and a head full of unrealistic conspiracy theories, they climbed up.
The place turned out to be even more bizarre than they had guessed. Old posters of school events dangled from the ceiling and a huge suitcase lay in the middle of the floor. Scattered around were jigsaw puzzles depicting the school principal in a pirate costume. Michael burst out laughing, seeing the headmaster with a parrot on his shoulder.
- Just don't find something more embarrassing here... - joked Karolina.
Before they had time to look into the suitcase, there was a sudden rumble from the other end of the loft. The light of a torch danced on an old portrait of the director, and from behind a wardrobe came out... a figure in a cylinder and with a huge fake moustache.
Their eyes widened in astonishment. Is this a joke? A ghost? Perhaps a mysterious associate of the director? Or... someone they shouldn't have met here at all?
