Marta and Piotr met every Wednesday evening on the roof of the old 'Room' cinema. It was quiet there, and through the cracks in the roof you could see the sky lit up by lanterns. There had been rumours for months that the abandoned building hid secrets - some even spoke of a portal leading to another world. But for Marta and Peter, it was just an urban legend, perfect for spinning jokes and humorous tales. That evening, everything was different. Marta found a rusty key under her seat. Its shape resembled a labyrinth, and when she touched it, she felt a gentle tingling in her fingers. Peter joked that it was sure to open a portal to a parallel universe. - 'Let's check it out,' Marta said, not quite sure if he was joking. They approached the heavy, creaking door leading behind the stage. To their surprise, the key fitted the old lock perfectly. A stream of cold light shot out from inside, moving across the walls like mist. The air smelled of ozone and something else Martha couldn't name. Beyond the door was a corridor neither of them had ever seen. At its end pulsed a luminous oval. From a distance they could hear noises they could not identify - laughter, crying, or perhaps the echo of their own thoughts? - Are we going in? - Peter asked, looking at Marta with fear and excitement in his eyes. The door behind them slammed violently shut. Then the portal flashed even stronger, and unreal shadows appeared in the air. Marta took the first step towards the light....
