Traces by the old pond
The morning smelled of moss and wet, cool grass.
Igi the hedgehog emerged from his burrow under the spruce tree.
He had a small rucksack and great curiosity.
At the edge of the forest, the rabbit Cub was waiting.
- Today we are looking for tracks, do you want to go? - he asked.
Igi nodded his nose and set off after Kuba.
They saw huge, strange footprints in the sand.
They were not like foxes or deer.
- Who has such long fingers? - whispered Kuba.
Next to them lay a feather, as green as a lime tree leaf.
Ola the owl flew silently down from the branch.
- That's not my feather - she said.
- The trail leads to the old pond - she added.
They walked slowly, as the reeds rustled like paper.
The water was smooth, but something bubbled.
A barrel with a hole was floating in the middle.
- 'I think there's someone in there! - squealed Igi.
A striped paw slid out of the barrel.
The barrel spun, then a cloud covered the sun.
What's going to jump out of the barrel when they get close?
