Torch and whispering from the wardrobe

Torch and whispering from the wardrobe
In the block, the lights in the corridor went out. Kaja sat in her pyjamas and listened to the wind. Mum was washing cups in the kitchen, the door was ajar. Pimpek the cat slept on a chair under the window. The only light in the room was the moon and the night light. Kaja held a small torch like a remote control. Suddenly she heard a whisper, quiet as a feather. The whisper came from the depths of a large wardrobe. "Kaja..." sounded between jackets and coats. The cat picked up her ears and jumped off the chair. Pimp looked towards the wardrobe door. Kaja stood up and carefully switched on the torch. She shone it at the floor, the wall and the dark carpet. She stopped the light on the tilted wardrobe slowly. The door was moved by a light draught from the window. "Mum?" she asked, but her mother no longer answered. Only the faucet and the fan hummed in the kitchen. Kaja grabbed the handle and swung the door wider. The torch trembled and Pimp whispered a quiet "mrau". Behind the mantle something flashed slightly, like a small eye. The whisper said her name again, even closer. Kaja took a breath and slid her hand inside.
