The attic of the tenement building on Wilenska Street had always seemed different to Jakub from the rest of the house - quiet, smelling of dust and something hard to define, perhaps remnants of past history. One evening, trying to hide from his noisy neighbours, he noticed an old, cobwebbed mirror in the corner of the room. It didn't look like anything special, but it puzzled him that he had never seen it there before. He ran his hand over the frosted surface. The mirror seemed cool and sticky, as if it pulsed under his fingers. As he stared at his reflection, the lines of his face slowly blurred and shadows of impossible shapes appeared behind his back. Curious and a little frightened, he decided to give it a try - he put his hand tighter and.... suddenly a chill surrounded him. He blinked. Instead of the familiar attic, he was standing in the middle of a wide avenue, lit by the pale blue light of lanterns. Overhead hung strange bridges arranged in a spiral, and people who looked like shadows ran up the winding staircase. They had eyes that glittered like glass and clothes of silvery material. The city was eerily quiet, as if everything was happening underwater. Jacob looked around, his heart pounding like mad. Suddenly, a girl in a dark cloak stepped out from around the corner. She nodded at him with obvious concern: - If you're here, you only have one chance to get back. Follow me if you want to survive. James hesitated, sensing that something was watching him from one of the dark gates. He took a step towards the girl, but then the ground beneath him trembled slightly - and the echo of a strange, low voice rang out somewhere behind his back. Was he supposed to trust her? Or was this just a game of shadows...?
