The watch that took you back in time: Oliver's adventure on the streets of old Warsaw
It was a June evening, and the air over the Vistula smelled of dampness and dust. Oliwier was turning page after page of an old book, trying to prepare for his final exams. His room in Warsaw's Powiśle district was illuminated by the warm, amber rays of the setting sun. On his desk, among the cups of under-drank coffee and piles of notes, lay a small, mysterious pocket watch. Olivier had found it by chance the previous day, rummaging through the junk in the attic.
The watch was heavy, with a carved envelope and an engraved date: 1863. When he pressed the button on the top, the mechanism squeaked and the hands began to spin at a dizzying pace. Suddenly the world swirled around him. The evening light went out and a chill pierced the air.
Instead of his own room, Olivier stood on a cobbled street, surrounded by tall townhouses and strolling people in old-fashioned clothes. Horse-drawn carts clattered along the uneven streets, and somewhere in the distance the sound of church bells could be heard. A girl dressed in a navy blue coat stopped in front of me, holding a leather briefcase under her arm.
- Are you lost? - She asked, casting him a wary glance. For a moment Olivier didn't know what to answer. The situation seemed unreal: his clothes, his phone, even his notes were gone. All that was left was him and the watch, held tightly in his hand.
The girl introduced herself as Lena. She stared intently at the watch, and her eyes widened in disbelief.
- Where did you get this? - her voice sounded quiet, almost conspiratorial.
Oliver didn't have time to answer, because raised voices came from the opposite side of the street. Two men in dark coats appeared among the passers-by, clearly looking for someone - and they cast their gaze straight towards him.
Lena whispered: - You have to trust me. Come on!
She pulled Oliver into a side street. His legs were like cotton wool, but he followed her. He heard the strange men quicken their stride. Lena pressed a finger to her lips, and a crash sounded behind them. The watch in his hand trembled again and began to glow with a strange light....
