The Secret Wing and the Mystery of the Old High School

The Secret Wing and the Mystery of the Old High School
The early evening shrouded the old high school in the misty aura of late autumn. The corridors, where the din of conversation usually carried, now sounded quiet, almost ominous. Maja and Kuba stayed after lessons, doing an overdue history assignment together in an empty classroom on the second floor. Outside the window, faint light squeezed through the branches, casting eerie shadows on the walls. - Have you ever even done a paper on the history of the school? - chuckled Maja, rearranging the drawing of the gothic portal. - "No, but I've always been puzzled by that closed wing," replied Kuba, pointing to a small door at the end of the corridor, boarded up and bearing the sign "No admittance. Renovation." Maja looked up with a smile. - Maybe they're just afraid someone will find the hidden lodge of former teachers? Cuba tapped his finger on the board. - Or something more exciting. Come on, let's check. A moment's hesitation, then with a quiet rustling they moved towards the door. Cuba, using an old key made from a string he had found in the caretaker's office, checked to see if anything would click. To their surprise, the mechanism gave way with a slight rasp. The door swung open a few centimetres, revealing darkness and dust lingering on the floor. After a moment of silence, without a word, they slipped inside. The echo of their footsteps echoed deafeningly off the walls. In front of them stretched a wide corridor with walls covered with old-fashioned panelling, on which time had left its mark. At the end of the corridor was a heavy double door with a faded school crest. Maja noticed fresh traces of mud on the floor. - See? Someone had been here recently. They approached the door. Kuba carefully handed Maja the phone with the torch. In the glow they saw strange signs scrawled in chalk on the doorknob. They resembled old symbols from a history notebook - runes or mysterious letters. Suddenly, a rustling sound came from behind the door, as if someone was moving on that side. They looked at each other, hearts beating faster than during any test. The door began to creak slowly, as if someone on the other side was trying to open it....
