The secret under the stairs
At Hela's grandmother's house there was the smell of bread and raspberries. Zosia came with Kuba for the weekend. They enjoyed chasing the dog, Pixel, around the garden. It was quiet and stuffy that day. Suddenly, under the stairs, something clattered quietly. The step vibrated, as if someone was whispering there.
"Grandma, did you hear that tapping too?" Cuba asked in a whisper and looked at the stairs. Grandma just blinked and handed over the torch. "Secrets like children, not dust," she said. Zosia crouched down and looked under the stairs. She found a small piece of paper and a red button. On the piece of paper was a drawing of a clock and an arrow. Under the drawing were the words: "If you are looking, be quiet." There was also a small golden key lying next to it.
The shadow of the clock fell on the third step. Zosia touched it with her finger and the step twitched. The dog squealed and pointed with its nose to a dark crevice. "I think there's something there," - Zosia whispered. A cool smell of earth blew from the hole. Something rang slightly, like metal against glass. The key fitted into a small, hidden padlock. Zosia turned it carefully, and then....
