The secret of the abandoned villa
Staś, Lena and Igor were walking along a narrow, winding path through the overgrown park when the last rays of the sun disappeared behind the horizon. Their hearts were pounding hard in their chests, but no one was going to show it. After all, they were eighteen years old, approaching the end of school and they felt it was time to do something really brave.
At the end of the alley stood it - the von Radow villa, a place full of local legends. Footsteps were said to be heard there at night, and lights flickering in the empty windows. The evening was perfect for exploring the mysteries.
"I don't think anyone has lived here for years," Lena whispered, looking at the shabby door.
"It's just a house," laughed Igor, albeit in an artificially confident voice. Staś touched the doorknob first - cool and rusty. The door gave way with a loud creak.
It was dark inside; the light of the torches slipped on the scratched walls and the dirty portraits of the former inhabitants. Dust floated in the air and footsteps echoed through the empty corridors. Staś accidentally tripped over a metal object hidden under the carpet. He picked it up - it was an old key.
"What could it possibly fit into?" asked Lena intrigued.
They moved on, passing through more rooms. They stopped at a heavy oak door at the end of the corridor. The key fitted perfectly into the lock. This time it was Lena who turned the key slowly.
The interior concealed a winding stone staircase leading deep into the darkness. A quiet murmur came to them from the depths.
"Did you hear that?" asked Igor in a whisper.
They all held their breath as a strange, pulsating light flashed unexpectedly from around the bend....
