The school on Maple Street looked quite ordinary - perhaps even too ordinary. No one suspected that something amazing was hidden in the old locker number 28, on the second floor on the right. It fell to Amelia to open up this secret world, although she herself did not realise it. Amelia was a thirteen-year-old who rather disbelieved in magic. She loved reading comic books, took notes in a notebook with cats and was a master at losing her pens. One day, as she ran late into school before her maths lesson, she felt something strange going on in her locker. When she opened the door, she heard a quiet giggle. At first she thought it was an echo in the school corridor, but then a clear voice rang out: "Oi, don't squeeze your notebook so hard!" Amelia froze. She was terrified that it was someone hiding in her locker, but instead she saw her notebook moving slightly! She opened her eyes wider and felt her heart beat faster. "Oh, now you can see us," a second, thinner voice called out. It was a pencil case in the shape of a pizza. And then there was the sound of a ruler who was clearly yawning from boredom, a pen that seemed to be narrating the entire events, and even an eraser that was shyly squeaking. All her school gadgets could talk and.... had an opinion of their own. It turned out that the subjects at school had their own meetings, shared secrets and helped each other. Amelia listened to them with growing amazement. But when, on her return from class, she realised that her favourite blue pen was gone - the same one that told stories so vividly - it became strangely quiet. The other objects in the cupboard were clearly afraid of something. Each began to speak in whispers, exchanging nervous glances between them. "You need to find the pen before it gets too late," whispered the notebook. "He knows the Maple School's biggest secret." At that moment, the light in the corridor began to dim, and Amelia heard a mysterious sound coming from inside the locker....
