The Riddle of the Old Railway Station
It was well past twenty-three when Lena, Jakub and Ola crossed the rusting gate leading to the site of the old railway station in Bartniki. The place had been abandoned and shrouded in disrepute for years - the village elders frightened the children with stories of mysterious apparitions and unexpected disappearances. However, all that mattered to the teenagers was the thrill and the chance to prove that they were not afraid of any legend.
With headlamps on their heads and backpacks full of snacks, they walked across the platform, whose roof was already barely holding on to the ornate pillars. Amidst the weeds and remnants of the old locomotive, they chose a spot in the former waiting room, where they spread out on the floor and began to make plans for the night.
- 'Do you think anything has really been seen here before? - Lena asked, peering out the dark window.
James laughed, trying to relieve the tension. - Ghosts? Maybe rats or bats at most.
Ola wasn't so sure. - What if... this story about the girl in the white dress isn't just a fairy tale?
Suddenly, somewhere deep on the tracks, a metallic rasp sounded. An echo ran across the platform, and the air grew strangely cold.
- Shh... - Lena put her finger to her lips. They heard another sound - as if someone was moving a heavy chain across the floor.
The light of their torches flickered. The door leading into the main hall of the station slowly, with a distinctive creak, began to open. A shadow appeared in the darkness, growing clearer and larger....
Suddenly, everything around them froze in silence. Each of them felt that they were just coming face to face with the mystery of the old station - and what they would see on the other side of the door would forever change their view of the night and of what the past hides.
