The Mayor, the Banana and the Duck Riddle in Slippers
Nothing ordinary had been happening in the town of Zigzagovo for three days. At eight o'clock in the morning, mayor Malwina Grzebieniowska drank her third coffee and already knew that the day promised to be suspiciously quiet. She was a woman of principle: no fasting errands, no arguing with her own dog and no gossiping before she opened the patisserie. Her dog Banana, a giant mutt with a penchant for slippers and cabanas, was rolling around on the carpet, having just arranged a dress rehearsal for a new dance routine. Bananas and cabanas - could there be a better combination?
It was Banana who first sensed something unusual. He wagged his tail at the door and let out a very loud "Wuf!". After which he ran to the window. Malwina came closer, bawling her eyes out in amazement.
There was a duck standing in the market square. This in itself would be nothing strange if the duck did not have pink rabbit-shaped slippers on its feet. Behind it - a second one, this time wearing coconut slippers. A third marching proudly in funny cactus slippers. A whole procession of ducks was already emerging from around the corner - and each in different slippers! People stopped, rubbing their eyes and covering their mouths before bursting out laughing.
- 'Banana, I think it's time for an intervention,' said the mayor, quickly tying up her trainers and packing two handfuls of dog treats in her pocket. The dog jumped up first - leading her through the crowd of amused residents all the way to the middle of the market square. There, among the flowers, a duck procession had already formed. At the head of the procession was a duck in slippers with the inscription "Chief".
Malwina knelt down and looked the animal straight in the eye.
- 'You look like someone who has a plan,' she said seriously.
Chief Duck flapped his wings and cackled with such enthusiasm that even Banana laid his ears horizontally. Then Mr Felix, the town's well-known slipper manufacturer and lover of bizarre competitions, jumped out from behind the fountain.
- Ladies and gentlemen! - he called out. - Maybe I'm crazy, but this morning my latest slippers disappeared from the workshop. Instead, I found... feathers and corn crispies!
At the same moment, the slippers began to glow with a strange purple light, and the ducks formed a circle and began to twitch rhythmically. Everyone watched with bated breath as the market slowly brightened up with colourful, strangely pulsating lights. Were the ducks trying to communicate something? Will Banana and the mayor unravel what the duck dance is all about and what the glowing slippers have to do with it?
Just then there was a sudden loud crash and.... a huge shadow appeared in the middle of the square....
