The Forest Adventures of Little Berry
In the old days, when great ferns grew in the glades and old oaks rustled in the forests, there was a small straw hut on the banks of the Green River. In it lived a girl called Berry. She had eyes as dark as berries and always went barefoot, even when the dew grew.
One morning, when the sun was barely peeking over the hills, Berry heard a quiet whisper coming from the forest. It was Squirrel Ruducha, who always had the latest forest news.
- Hey, Berry! - called out the Squirrel jumping from twig to twig. - Come quick, you've got to see something! Something unusual has happened in the deep rowan grove!
Berry was very curious, so she ran after Squirrel. On the way, they were joined by Zyzio the Hedgehog, who was still snoring under the moss, but was awakened by the thud of his feet.
- What happened there, Ruducho? - asked Zyzio, stretching lazily.
- You won't believe it! - squealed Squirrel. - Someone has left footprints that no one has ever seen here before. They're bigger than a wolf's paw, and strange blue flowers are growing all around them!
Berry opened her eyes wide. - Maybe it's the spirit of the forest? Or one of the old Slavic guardians of the trees?
The friends moved together towards the rowan grove. The closer they got, the more the leaves rustled and the birds fell silent for a while. At last they stood in front of large blue footprints imprinted in the soft earth. Around them, unfamiliar, glowing flowers swayed in the breeze.
Suddenly, from a nearby bush came the quiet muttering and hurried stamping of something or someone they had never seen before....
