The Clockwork Expedition of Pola and Stasia
Pola and Staś were siblings who liked to play together in a room full of teddy bears, books and colourful blocks. One afternoon, when the trees were humming outside the window, they heard a strange sound from the corner of the room: tick-tock, tick-tock. They looked up and until their eyes opened wide. On a small table, which had not been there before, stood an old clock with a large golden hand.
Staś approached carefully and touched the clock. The clock shook and its dial shimmered with a thousand colours. Pola noticed a small button on the side of the case. It was as green as grass. She smiled at her brother:
- Why don't we press it together?
- Sure! - replied Staś and together they pressed the button.
Suddenly they felt a slight tickle in their feet, the air around them began to swirl and everything became very quiet. The room turned into swirling lights. For a moment nothing could be seen, until suddenly....
Pola and Staś were standing in the middle of a a very strange meadow. Instead of grass, huge daisies grew here, and singing beetles with colourful wings sat on them. In the distance, they could see a huge castle that looked like something out of pictures in books about the old days.
- Where are we? - whispered Pola.
- I think we have moved to another place.... or to another time! - replied Staś, looking with delight at the dancing fireflies.
Behind their backs a quiet tick-tock sounded again. When they turned around, they found the old clock lying on a soft floral carpet. The hands began to move faster and faster, as if inviting Pola and Stasia on another adventure.
Suddenly, just outside the castle, a trumpet sounded and the castle door opened wide. Someone in a shiny cloak stepped out from inside and waved to the children.
Pola and Staś looked at each other with wide-open eyes. Should they approach the castle? What awaited them there?
