Nina, Janek and Karol met for the third time this summer at Nina's grandmother's house. This time there was no plan for an evening together, so they decided to have a look in the attic, where dust and the smell of old books were gathering. - Who knows, maybe we'll find a treasure! - muttered Charles, searching the nooks and crannies behind a pile of boxes. Nina rolled her eyes. - More like lots of spiders... Janek, the quietest of the three, discovered something behind a large box. In the corner, under a yellowed sheet, stood a bizarre clock. Its dial was covered with ancient numerals and the hands moved a little too fast. It created the impression as if it did not belong to this time. - Hey, look! - he called out. - There's something here! As soon as Nina pulled the sheet off him, a strange noise filled the room. Charles took a closer look at the mechanism and noticed a small silver button just below the dial. Without thinking, he pressed it. The light blinked and the attic was illuminated by blue flashes for a split second. When they opened their eyes, something had changed - a different light was coming in through the dusty windows, and the voices of strangers dressed in old clothes were coming from behind the walls. - Can you guys feel it? - whispered Nina, looking around. - It smells... like... before? Janek slowly approached the window and saw horse-drawn carts in the courtyard, and the square in front of the house was filled with people in long coats and hats. Charles touched the clock, which was still ticking, although the hands were now running backwards. The three friends realised that not only had they found the old clock, but perhaps... they had just started a journey from which it was not clear whether they would be able to return.
