The grey building on Wiatraczna Street had stood here for as long as Ola could remember. Although the whole neighbourhood had changed, it had remained almost the same - with a rusty gate, a mossy garden and a big, creaky house. It was here that Ola, Julia and Maks decided to enter the dusty attic, whose door had always been locked until now. It was already late in the afternoon when they shuffled up the creaky stairs with their hearts pounding. Maks was clutching a torch in his hand and Julia a key they had accidentally found in the old casket of Ola's great-grandmother. The door swung open with a groan so loud that everyone held their breath. Inside, it smelled of dust and something else Ola didn't know how to name. The ceiling reached all the way to the roof, and beneath it stood forgotten trunks, old paintings and a huge clock - a tall one, with a pendulum and a dial reminiscent of the night sky. The clock was surprisingly clean and looked as if someone had just set it. On its dial, instead of hours, there were... dates. - Look! - whispered Julia. - Here is 1944... and there is 2050! Ola carefully touched the pendulum. At the same instant, the clock started ticking and the hands jumped instantly to the date: 12 July 1982. The room swirled and the light from Max's torch spilled onto the walls, which began to change colour. The shadows moved faster and faster - until finally all three of them felt them fall to the floor.... When they opened their eyes, the attic looked completely different. Outside the dirty window, a square emerged with other unfamiliar cars and people dressed in strange clothes. Footsteps and loud conversations came from behind the door, and the date on the clock wall flashed again.... Ola held her breath as she heard voices approaching. Someone was trying to enter the attic. Should they come back? Who were the people downstairs? And most importantly - would the clock allow them to go home?
