Did You Know?

The Circus of the Invisible Rope

The Circus of the Invisible Rope
The last lesson on Thursday dragged on endlessly. No one was listening to the biology teacher anymore - everyone's thoughts revolved around one topic: the circus. At the end of the playing field, under the cover of the fog, colourful tents with the logo of a silver rope winding in the shape of an 'S' had sprung up overnight. Lena stared through the glass, barely paying attention to the notes. Cuba, who usually played under the bench on his smartphone, this time initiated a whispered brainstorm: - Are you saying no one saw them arrive? - No one. They just... were. - Lena shrugged her shoulders, not taking her eyes off the bizarre glittering flags. After school, the pitch resembled a street. People of all ages lined up, but tickets were only sold to the first hundred people. Rumour had it that the magic number of one hundred was no coincidence, and each spectator left the tent a little different to the one they entered. Lena and Kuba didn't have tickets, but they weren't about to let go. They waited until dusk, hiding behind a pile of old mattresses. Suddenly, the lights in the tent dimmed and the circus began to resound with unearthly music. Through a gap in the sheet, they spotted the silhouette of an artist balancing on an invisible rope - the air around her swirled and the shadows on the walls took on the shapes of animals, as if they were about to come to life. Suddenly, they felt something strange - a breath of chill, the smell of ozone and... a brief flicker of air right next to them. A shadow flashed behind their backs. Kuba squeezed Lena's hand and whispered: - Can you see it? A figure emerged from the darkness - a tall man wearing a wide-brimmed hat, his eyes shining with an unnatural light. His lips whispered in a half-smile: - Are you lost? Or are you... looking for answers? At the same moment, a shrill but melodious laugh came from inside the arena. Lena looked at Cuba, and their hearts began to beat faster. They were no longer spectators - the circus had invited them inside, and what was about to happen could change their lives once and for all....
