The old factory walls by the river looked as if they had been consumed by time. Kaja had known the place since she was a child, but ever since she and Daniel had started shooting there for a photography project, the factory had been revealing more and more nooks and crannies to them. Today was the first time they were to venture to the top floor, which apparently no one had visited for decades. Climbing the narrow staircase, Kaja glanced at Daniel every now and then. He was focused, his camera held tightly to his chest. There was a smell of dust and dampness all around. Thin rays of light streamed in from the windows, reflecting off the abandoned machinery. When they went upstairs, they noticed something that seemed out of place - a piece of the floor was covered in a barely visible fluorescent pattern. As Daniel leaned over to take a picture, they heard a deafening sound, as if something had slipped past their backs. The pattern on the floor seemed to pulsate. Kaja, intrigued, touched one of the geometric symbols. At the same moment, the air around them trembled and they felt as if they had lost their balance for a few seconds. When the image stopped rippling, they realised that something had changed: the light was coming from a different direction, the air smelled of ozone, and through the window they saw a city that looked completely alien. The roofs of the houses had different shapes, and the streets were entwined in a network of shimmering, moving lines. Daniel took a few tentative steps towards the window, trying to make sense of what had happened. Kaja looked at her hands - they were slightly translucent in the light. Suddenly, a rhythmic clatter came from the corridor, as if someone or something was approaching slowly, sensing their presence. They both held their breath as the door began to open quietly, and from behind it emerged a shadow with a shape difficult to describe....
