Did You Know?

The Book of Elarion

The Book of Elarion
In the centre of the Twilight City stood a building that had caused mischief for generations - the Old Library of Elarion. It was unlike any other library: its roof was covered in living ivy, and two statues of griffins guarded the entrance day and night. After dark, the building seemed to whisper its own melody, brought on by the night wind. It was here, amidst the lashing rain, that Lena, David and Nadia met. Each of them had a reason for appearing in this place - some more rational, others... quite different. Lena loved delving into dusty volumes, David was always looking for a reason to step away from the computer screen, and Nadia suspected that there was more to the library than just paper and ink. The interior of Elarion resembled a labyrinth: shelves piled up to the ceiling, and wooden stairs led to balconies from which one could whisper spell readings hidden among the twilight. When the three friends stepped inside, they were greeted by the quiet creaking of the floor and the smell of old volumes. They strolled between the bookcases until suddenly Lena stopped abruptly. In a corner, where dust and cobwebs usually gathered, flashed the cover of a book they had never seen before. It was covered in dark green leather, and an intricate pattern of swirling characters was embroidered on its spine. - Check it out! - whispered Lena, placing her hand on the cover. - 'Probably some forgotten catalogue,' muttered David, but Nadia already knew that this was no ordinary book. When Lena opened it, a light, silvery dust rose from the book. The letters began to swirl over the page, forming moving patterns, as if the book was telling a story on its own. - It's... magic," said Nadia in disbelief. At the same moment, a metallic clatter sounded around them. One of the griffin statues by the door moved, shaking off the rain. David stepped back abruptly, Lena squeezed the book tighter, and Nadia looked at her friends with a question in her eyes. Were they prepared to go further? Shimmering runes began to appear on the floor around them, as if Elarion was coming to life and inviting them deep into its secret passages. The light in the hall dimmed. The door behind them slammed shut with a bang. Did this place really want to reveal its secrets, or did it have completely different plans for them?
