It was a beautiful, warm evening when Susie, together with her mum and dad, came to the big square outside the town. There stood a huge red tent with colourful flags, and on the gate was a sign: CYRK OF JOY. There was the smell of popcorn and candyfloss everywhere, and the laughter of children and the sounds of the circus orchestra could be heard in the air. Zuzia could hardly wait. This was going to be her first circus night! Upon entering the tent, she saw a large arena in the shape of a circle, with various characters bustling about. The clown Beetle was waving a huge yellow glove at everyone. Next to Beetle was acrobat Lenka, who could do funny flips and somersaults. When everyone was seated, the circus director entered the arena with a big, colourful hat. The show began! First the parrot performed, repeating words in a funny way, then a kitten in a glittering waistcoat appeared on the rope, and then the trumpet played a lively tune as the clown began to prepare his trick. Suddenly, just before the acrobat Lenka performed, the tent became quiet. The lights started flashing, and then.... everything went out! There was darkness all around, and something slowly began to move in the middle of the arena. Susie held her breath and stared wide-eyed as she knew that something amazing was about to happen....
