Susie and the Enchanted Forest Bridge

Susie and the Enchanted Forest Bridge
Susie lived on the edge of a big, green forest. Every morning, before the sun had even climbed high in the sky, she went out into the yard with her dog, Patch. Patch had ears like butterflies and wagged his tail merrily when Susie threw him a stick. The backyard was full of adventures, but nothing made Susie happier than wandering in the forest. One summer day Susie noticed something unusual between the trees. Between two huge willows hung a bridge that had never been there before! The bridge was made of colourful planks, and peacock feathers and pinecones sat on its railing. The rustling leaves whispered as if to invite her in. "Patch, look! Where did this bridge come from?" - asked Susie, coming closer. Patch sniffed the planks and squeaked quietly, as if he sensed something there. The bridge led deep into the forest, where Zuzia had never been before. Suddenly, a silvery squirrel with a tail like a plume flitted under the bridge. Susie felt her heart beat faster. "Maybe this bridge leads to a place where candy berries grow? Or maybe to a forest land where talking animals live?" - she imagined. She carefully placed one foot on the first plank. Patch cuddled up to her leg and together they began to cross the bridge. Each plank made a different sound: one squeaked like a pipe, another laughed softly and a third cooed quietly like a dove. When they were halfway across the bridge, they suddenly felt a slight breeze and heard soft bells above their heads. On the other side of the bridge, behind the mist, strange, colourful shadows began to emerge.... Susie stopped and looked at Patch. Should they take the next step?
