Susan and the Glass Street behind the Golden Door

Susan and the Glass Street behind the Golden Door
Zosia lived in a block of flats next to a small park. It was raining and the wind rustled the leaves. Mum was cooking vegetable soup in the kitchen. Zosia was putting together a jigsaw puzzle on the green carpet. Suddenly something snapped under her hand. A small golden door flashed under the puzzle. It had a small handle like a bean. Zosia touched the handle and heard a quiet clank. The door had grown to the size of a school book. She looked inside and blinked in surprise. Beyond the door was a street made of glass like the moon. The houses had roofs made of milkweed petals. Fish swam across the sky, quiet as a feather. Zosia slipped her hand in and felt a cool breeze. She called out quietly: "Hello, is anyone there?" A small silver envelope slid out of the depths. The envelope bore her signature and a map. The arrow on the map flashed like a star. The door began to creak and slowly closed. Zosia took a breath and took a step forward.
