Strawberry Hill and Vanishing Fruit

Strawberry Hill and Vanishing Fruit
At the end of the village, just behind the row of colourful houses, there was a garden that everyone called Strawberry Hill. Not only juicy strawberries grew there, but also raspberries, strawberries and even pear and plum trees. Very often Marysia played there with her brother Philip and their little shaggy dog Bąbel. One morning, the children noticed something strange. The basket they had left under the strawberry bush was empty. There wasn't a single strawberry in it! Philip looked carefully around and Bubble started sniffing and wagging his tail. - Maybe someone just ate all the fruit? - Marysia asked, but they both knew very well that it wasn't any of the household members. That same afternoon, the children went to see if anything unusual had happened to the other fruit too. Under the pear tree they found only a few stubs, and by the raspberry tree there was a smashed leaf. - 'Let's go to Strawberry Hill tonight and see what's going on,' suggested Filip. Marysia eagerly nodded, and Bubble barked happily. As dusk fell, the children put on warm sweatshirts, took a torch and quietly slipped out of the house into the garden. Bubble went first, tracking something with his nose just off the ground. It was quiet all around, only the crickets and the soft rustling of leaves could be heard. Suddenly, behind a strawberry bush, a faint light flashed. Was it a torch or something else entirely? Marysia squeezed Philip's hand, and Bubble stopped and ruffled his fur.... What did the children see behind the bush? Why was the fruit from their garden suddenly disappearing?
