Storm over the fjord

Storm over the fjord
Autumn nights could be restless over the Gardsfjord. A silvery mist swirled over the glistening surface of the water, obscuring the shores and lengthening the shadows by the fire. The settlement of Njordheim was in an uproar. Everyone was looking forward to the day when the three young men - Bjørn, Eydis and Torvald - would sail on an adult expedition for the first time. Bjørn, the blacksmith's son, had always had more courage than muscle. Eydis had the sharpest eyesight and a sharp mind, and as a result sometimes won bets with the adults. Torvald, agile and clever, could climb the highest tree without making a sound. They all dreamt of a great adventure at sea, which they would talk about on long winter evenings. The day of the expedition arrived. Their boat, the "Wolf's Claw", glided over the waves as the sun climbed slowly over the mountain tops. The young Vikings laughed, sang songs and told each other stories about distant lands. But as the fjord disappeared from their sight, the sky suddenly clouded over. The wind broke with a roar and the sea agitated as if it wanted to swallow the boat. The waves hurled the 'Wolf Claw' like a toy. Bjørn held the helm tightly, Eydis tried to read the direction and Torvald sang a song about Odin, hoping it would bring them luck. When the storm finally subsided, they found themselves in the midst of a thick fog, and the Wolf's Claw settled on a sandy shore. This was no familiar island - the trees looked different, there was a strange smell in the air, as if the sea had mixed with the forest. In the distance, blue light shimmered through the branches, and the wind brought the distant, deep sound of a drum. Bjørn looked at his companions. "We need to check it out. Just be quiet." With beating hearts, they moved towards the light. As Torvald's quick footsteps fell silent in the soft moss, heavy breathing sounded from behind the bushes. Suddenly, the sound of a horn pierced the air, and the silhouettes of figures they had never seen before flashed between the trees....
