Starfinders: Mission on Axilon

Starfinders: Mission on Axilon
The silence that reigned in the Ganymede Orbital Station was very different from the one Maks knew. Here, among the metallic corridors and blue lights, even breathing seemed loud. Maks looked through the transparent wall at the illuminated stars. The cosmos seemed vast and mysterious, but today Maks felt more than ever that he belonged in this space. Next to him stood Lena, a short girl with red hair and eyes always full of determination. She held her tablet in her hand, on which green stamps blinked. - 'The scanners caught that signal again,' she said, flipping the screens quickly. - This is the third time in two days. This time it's coming from Axilon. - Axilon? - spoke up Simon, a year older than Maks, their technical genius. He brushed his unruly hair off his forehead. - After all, this planet should have been abandoned for years! There isn't even a research colony there anymore. - And yet something is emitting radio waves there - Lena looked at them meaningfully. - And in a rhythm that resembles Morse code. Maks felt a shudder. A code? Is someone alive out there? When the station commander gave the go-ahead, the three of them headed for the hangar. Their ship, 'Orion 5', shone in the glow of neon lights. This was to be this crew's first solo flight. They knew they were going to fly to Axilon, even though officially the mission was only supposed to be an exercise. They felt a familiar vibration as they took off, and Ganymede quickly disappeared behind them, giving way to the darkness of space. Each of them was thinking the same thing - what would they really find on Axilon? After several hours of flight, the planet came into view. Its surface was surprisingly green, although it should have been empty and dead. Simon zoomed in on the image on the monitor. - Can you see it? - He asked quietly. - There are some lights on the equator. They look like a city, but there is no record of a base there. As the 'Orion 5' approached landing, the radio signal suddenly went silent. For a while there was only the deafening buzz of the engines, until Lena picked up a new disturbance. - 'The signal has changed, but it's still there,' she muttered. - This time it sounds like... music. The ship landed softly on a sandy plateau. Maks, Lena and Simon put on their overalls and disembarked. They could feel the tension. Ahead of them stretched a strange path, leading directly to a luminous city that should not exist here. Simon pressed a button on his sleeve and whispered: - We are ready. Shall we go? At the same moment, a quiet laugh rang out somewhere in the darkness, and flickering silhouettes appeared around them, barely visible in the glow of the illuminated helmets. Before they could speak to each other, the city lit up with a thousand lights and all three felt the ground beneath their feet begin to vibrate....
