Silence at Cis Lake
A thick, foggy night shrouded Lake Cis and the water was as black as ink. High school students from Class IIc - Lena, Michal, Patrick and Zoe - pitched two tents right on the shore. It was supposed to be an ordinary night under the tent - jokes, guitar, spinning stories. However, right from the start, something was wrong in the air.
- Do you have the feeling that someone is watching us? - Lena asked half-jokingly, glancing at the dark forest by the lake. The silence around was thick, broken only by the splash of water and the rustling of leaves.
Patryk laughed, but Michal soured: - Tell that to me, who had to go deep into the forest to get wood. I swear I heard someone repeating my name, but no one was there.
Zoe, who was seemingly the least afraid, now clutched the sleeve of her sweatshirt. - 'You'd better not tease the area. Didn't you read that local story about the sinking boats? Apparently, at night, the boats swim out into the middle of the lake on their own, even if they are pulled ashore.
- Really? 'It's probably the wind,' Lena replied, trying to sound rational, although her voice trembled. For a while no one spoke.
Suddenly something whirred just outside their tents. Patrick pulled himself up from his blanket, Lena held her breath. Zoe leaned over and whispered: - Did you hear that?
The scraping sound repeated itself, closer this time. Michael reached for his torch, but the light was faint, as if the battery had suddenly run out. At that very moment, their own dinghy, which they had left high up on the sand, began to move slowly towards the lake, leaving a distinct trail in the wet sand.
- It can't be... - whispered Lena, staring at the moving dinghy.
The darkness over the lake deepened, the air became heavy and there was an unexpectedly quiet metallic sound around the tents. Everyone held their breath as the following emerged from the water, literally a few metres from the shore....
