Shadows over the Crow's Woods
The Crow Forest was never an ordinary place. Especially when the sun hid behind a cascade of spruce trees and the shade grew thick under the mighty trees. Life flowed peacefully here, but this spring everything changed.
Rudolf, a fox with a penetrating gaze and thick, flame-coloured fur, walked slowly through the clearing. Beside him walked Blanka, a snowy owl whose mind was as sharp as her eyesight, and Bartek, a young deer with a great curiosity about the world. They had met by chance, but they shared more than just friendship - lately they had all been troubled by the same question: what happens in the forest after dark?
For days, they had been finding large paw prints under the pine trees that none of them recognised. Even the old badger, known from the forest chronicle, only shook her head when she saw the imprinted tracks in the mud.
That evening, the three friends decided to set out in search of answers. They walked towards the Deep Ravine, where strange noises had recently been heard - short, broken squeaks and thuds that echoed off the rocks.
- Do you think it could be a wolf? - whispered Bartek, glancing at Blank.
The owl turned its head, listening alertly.
- Wolves don't leave tracks like that. Besides... these sounds are different. As if someone... something trying to hide.
They reached the edge of the ravine. The air was heavy, carrying with it the smell of dampness and something else - metallic, alien.
- Look! - Rudolf pointed to the undergrowth. Amidst the ferns lay a glittering husk, glinting with golden light in the faint moonlight.
- What creature could have lost it? - Blanka almost whispered, as if she was afraid of hearing the answer from the darkness.
Suddenly, a rustling sound, which could not be mistaken for anything else, came from the depths of the forest. Everything froze for a moment. A quiet groan, the crackle of branches - and then a shadow, moving swiftly between the trees.
The friends looked at each other, their hearts pounding like mad. Something or someone was watching them from the darkness. Should they retreat, or take a step further?
Silence fell, and in it - a barely audible, deep breathing just behind their backs....
