Shadows of Tomorrow
The sky was the colour of spilled ink as Arthur looked once again at the abandoned building of the old high school. There was something magnetising about the ruin - and not just for him. This time the four of them had come: he, Lena, Igor and Zuza. They all felt that something was going to happen that night.
They entered through a broken window, the light of torches dancing on the damp walls and cracked tiles. Lena discovered an old staircase leading to the basement and, at the bottom, a cast-iron box covered in dust and cobwebs. Igor carelessly lifted the lid.
Inside lay an unusual clock. Despite its age, it was untouched by time, and the hands spun in the opposite direction. On the dial, where the numbers usually appeared, they noticed mysterious symbols.
- 'It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie,' whispered Zuza, trying to touch the dial face. At that moment, the clock began to glow with an inner blue light, and a low, vibrating sound echoed around them.
Arthur felt a strange warmth on his skin. Lena, who was standing opposite, looked him in the eye - frightened but fascinated. The clock trembled and suddenly they felt as if the ground beneath them had disappeared. There was a crackling sound in the air, the light flickered and....
They found themselves in a completely different place. Above their heads the sun was fierce and hot. They were standing in the middle of a crowded market, and all around them a crowd of strangely dressed people were lost between the stalls. In the distance they could hear the deafening sounds of drums and a language neither of them understood.
- Was it ... medieval? - whispered Lena, staring at the lion crest hanging above the inn's entrance.
They had no time to answer. A group of armed men moved towards them. Zuza squeezed the clock tighter, which was just beginning to glow with increasing intensity....
