Shadows in the Garden of Mirrors
Lena stepped through the overgrown gate leading to the garden of an old, abandoned villa on the edge of town. For years, the house had been shrouded in a strange aura and neighbours had shunned it. But Lena - with her irrepressible curiosity and unquenchable desire to experience everything more strongly - could not resist the temptation. She needed a break from the thoughts that had been swirling around in her head like storm clouds lately.
Carefully taking her steps among the tall grasses, she suddenly tripped over something hard. She looked down and saw the edge of an ancient mirror, partly covered with earth and leaves. She cleared it, and reflected in the glass not only her and the garden around her, but also.... the figure standing right behind her! Lena turned abruptly, but there was no one there. Her heart sped up, her hands became damp. She wanted to run away already, when she spotted a boy sitting under a spreading chestnut tree. He looked not much older than her, but his eyes sparkled as if they knew the world better than time itself.
The boy smiled slightly. "You found your mirror," he said quietly. Each word sent a shiver of anxiety but also excitement through Lena. "These mirrors show more than just faces. They can reveal what you fear, what you hide from yourself."
Lena felt her cheeks burning. She recalled a situation from a few days ago, when she had had an argument with her best friend and had been unable to put her thoughts in order ever since. She slowly sat down facing him, her heart pounding like a hammer. "Who are you?" - she asked, but the boy only pointed to another mirror, hidden under the rose bushes.
Approaching it, Lena looked into the glass panel. This time, instead of her reflection, she saw an image of her own emotions - anger, embarrassment, disappointment and longing scrolled like colourful streaks of light. She wanted to look away, but something was drawing her back. The boy slowly walked closer, and in his eyes Lena saw her own fear of being misunderstood.
At the same moment, the garden trembled silently and all the mirrors began to shine with an unseen light. Lena felt that something was changing - something was about to happen that could change everything. The door of the old villa, which nobody had opened for years, slowly began to creak open....
