Shadows Beyond the Mirror
The old, dilapidated mirror in the attic of Aunt Leokadia's house had attracted the curiosity of Martina, Wojtek and Olek for years. Every summer, as the heat warmed the roof tiles, they would slip between boxes full of forgotten memories to discover the attic treasures. This evening, however, as the storm raged outside the windows, something was different.
A flash of lightning illuminated the corner where a mirror with an ornate frame stood. This time something more than the shadows of the old furniture was reflected behind the surface - in the depths of the glass the silhouette of a small cupboard loomed. When Olek, driven by curiosity (and a bit of perversity), came closer, he discovered a thick leather-bound volume inside, on which the symbol of an eye among writhing serpents was clearly visible.
- 'See this,' he whispered, pulling out the book. The leather felt cool under his fingers and indistinct blue letters appeared on the cover. Martina felt anxious, and Wojtek's heart began to beat like crazy. As they opened the book, they felt each word they read evoke emotions - joy, anxiety, shame, anger - all at once, as if a storm of feelings had swept through their heads.
And then the shadows appeared. They slid out from behind the mirror, pulsing with the children's emotions. Their every thought, every secret and every fear was taking shape on the other side of the sheet. Brave Olek suddenly felt a paralysing fear, and Martina felt a shame she had never known before. Only Wojtek, with clenched fists, dared to look the shadows straight in the eye.
A quiet whisper came from the mirror: "Are you sure you want to know what your insides are hiding?" As darkness filled the room, the friends had to decide whether to close the book or...
