The town of Coral Mountain looked very different at night than it did during the day. The street lamps cast wild shadows on the cracked pavements, and muffled voices came from behind the closed windows of the townhouses. This was where Tymek lived, a 15-year-old boy who always had the feeling that he was missing something - as if something unusual was happening around him, but only at the edge of his vision. One evening, he met up with his friends on the old rooftop, just above their favourite pizzeria on the Horn of Good. Anka, a little older and read in books about inventions, and Michal, always with a bike under his arm and a perpetual joke on his lips, were ready for anything. That evening the air was full of an energy that everyone felt, although none could name it. - Have you ever seen a lantern glow blue? - asked Anka, pointing to the light right next to it, which suddenly, as if on command, changed colour and started to flicker. - 'Maybe it's a malfunction,' chuckled Michal, but even he felt a shudder. A moment later, a strange sound came from the alley below the pizzeria - as if someone was whispering in all the languages of the world for a moment. None of them said a word. Only Tymek noticed that delicate streaks of light appeared on his hands. When he raised his hand, the light began to move, as if dancing, guided by his thoughts. His friends stared at him with wide-open eyes. Anka suddenly felt that she understood the mechanisms of everything at hand - from a simple paperclip to electrical wires. Michael, on the other hand, felt that he could not only see every movement of air, but could also... move it. - Did we... - Tymek began, but did not finish, because suddenly a deafening bang came from the depths of the street. A blurry shadow of something or someone appeared near the ground, moving far too fast to be an ordinary person. The roof beneath them shuddered and the wind whirred around them. The teenagers looked at each other. They knew that nothing would be the same again that night. Just then, something from the shadows began to climb onto the roof....
