Shadow over the City of Chimes
The city of Kurants was bustling with energy at this time of year. Despite the late hour, the streets were lit up with neon lights and the air trembled with the music coming out of the cafes and clubs. But on this night, there was something else in the air - something that made even the most entertaining residents look anxiously to the sky.
In the very centre of the city, on the roof of a centuries-old building, stood three young people. Lena was the lowest, with flame-coloured hair, impatiently tapping her shoe on the concrete surface. Next to her, Leon, tall and slim, was looking through binoculars at the darkening sky. The third person, Maya, was leaning with her back against the chimney, in her hands holding a leather glove with a blue stone sunken inside.
- 'Something's coming,' whispered Lena, her eyes glittering with the reflected light of the neon lights.
- 'Not just a storm,' Leon admitted, putting down his binoculars. - I could see it. That shadow... He doesn't look natural.
Maya straightened up slowly, analysing the strange phenomenon with evident tension. On the horizon, the darkness was thickening like pitch and lightning was tearing the sky silently, as if someone had turned off the sound of the city.
- 'We need to find out what it is,' Maya said quietly, the strap of her glove tightening around her wrist. - 'My power has been going crazy for the last few minutes. I feel something... like someone is trying to get into my mind.
It all happened suddenly. Silence fell from the sky, then light. As Lena looked up, the world around her began to blur, as if someone had flipped the pages of her memory. Leon felt the pulsing of the metal railing under his fingers, and Maya saw a mysterious figure on the roof, with his face hidden under a hood.
- 'Who are you? - Leon asked, his voice trembling just a little.
The figure raised its hand, and the air began to tremble around it. Suddenly, luminous marks appeared on the bodies of Lena, Leon and Maya - pulsating as if alive, further enhancing their powers.
- This... isn't really happening. - Lena closed her eyes, trying to control her accelerated heartbeat.
The figure took a step forward - the light around her thickened and the roof began to tremble. The next move was going to decide everything...
