Shadow herbarium
Maja had always felt that there was more to their sleepy little town than evenly trimmed hedges and silent houses. She enjoyed long walks, during which she imagined that every shadow could be a gateway to another world. That evening, as the wind swept between the leaves, bringing with it the scent of rain, her attention was drawn to an old, rusty gate leading to a property that everyone spoke of only in whispers.
Behind it, among the wild shrubbery, the glass walls of the conservatory emerged with difficulty. The air vibrated with heat and something else - something she couldn't name. Intrigued, Maja walked through the gate and moved cautiously towards the building. The glass panes of the orangery were covered in a thin layer of dust, but when she looked closer, she saw strange patterns on them, like drawings of leaves and flowers she didn't know.
The door gave way under slight pressure, creaking ominously. Inside, twilight reigned. Pots, notebooks and old vials piled up on tables and shelves. What attracted Mai's attention most, however, was the huge herbarium - a massive book lying in the middle of the table. The cover seemed to pulsate to the rhythm of her heart, and the letters in the title changed like a shadow on a leaf:
"The Shadow Herbarium."
Unable to stop herself, Maja opened the first page. The plant that was drawn there looked like a hybrid of an ivy and a butterfly, yet it glowed a vibrant green on the paper. Next to the drawing someone had annotated in ink: "Only in moonlight."
Suddenly, the air became heavier and the shadow under one of the benches moved, taking the shape of something unidentifiable. A barely audible whisper came from the depths of the conservatory:
- The book had been opened. Someone new has come into the shadow garden....
Maja turned around instantly, her heart beating like mad. Were they really just shadows, or something more? Would she dare turn another page of the herbarium - and what would happen if she did?
