Secret Gate under the Apple tree
Basia was six years old and loved to run barefoot in the garden. Her younger brother, Franek, was five years old and always followed Basia step by step. One sunny afternoon, when the sun was dancing between the leaves of the big apple tree, the children were playing tag.
Basia hid behind a thick tree trunk. When she touched the soft moss, her fingers encountered something hard and cool. - What is that? - she asked herself. She pushed back the leaves a little and saw that a small, shiny handle was hidden in the ground.
- Franek! Come here quickly! - she called out excitedly. Franek ran up and together they started to shovel away the dirt and twigs. After a while they discovered a small door, barely visible under the roots of the apple tree. The door was colourful and decorated with animal paintings. In the middle was a twisted key.
- Do you think we can open it? - asked Franek with his eyes wide open.
Basia smiled and grabbed the key. She slowly turned it in the lock until they heard a quiet "click!". The door swung open slightly and a warm golden light spilled out from behind it.
Inside shone a tunnel, as if made of coloured beads and soft cushions. A quiet humming came from inside, as if someone was singing a cheerful song.
- Shall we go in there? - whispered Franek, grabbing Basia's hand.
Basia nodded. Together they took the first step inside the portal. At the same moment, the air around them vibrated and a strange, dancing silhouette appeared at the end of the tunnel....
The children froze in place, wondering who or what was waiting for them on the other side of the gate.
