Lena had always believed that the library in Old Heights held secrets. It was the largest and oldest in the whole town, and the long corridors, the semi-darkness and the taste of dusty volumes attracted her like a magnet. One cloudy afternoon, as the wind rustled the branches of the trees outside the windows, Lena was once again flitting between the bookcases, looking for somewhere to hole up with a fantasy book. But this time something was different. Behind a bookcase labelled 'Lunar Shadows', she spotted a worn carpet she hadn't seen before. In its centre shone a silvery pattern resembling a new moon. Lena crouched down and touched the fabric. To her amazement, the carpet rustled quietly, revealing a small iron door with an owl symbol in the floor. The girl's fingers shook with excitement. She carefully pulled the handle, which was surprisingly cold. The door opened with a quiet creak. Behind them, narrow steps led downwards, and the cool air smelled of dampness and old parchment. The voice of reason said to go back, but curiosity was stronger. She took a deep breath and descended, lighting her way with the torch from her phone. The stairs led to a stone chamber full of shelves of books whose titles she did not know. In the middle of the room, a magical blue light burned, illuminating a mysterious circle on the floor. Lena walked closer and saw that its edges were covered with writing that formed words on its own: "Whoever crosses this threshold will awaken the old powers." Before Lena could do anything, the light swirled and a figure emerged from the shadows - tall, in a black cloak, with an owl mask over its face.
