Passage under the station clock
On a summer night, Alex, Lena and Kuba walked along the deserted platforms of the old railway station. The building, once bustling with life, had stood closed for years, and the smell of rust and damp hung around. The clock above the main entrance stopped at 2:17, as if time had lost itself here.
- 'I told you it was creepy in here,' whispered Kuba and looked around nervously.
Alex, always hungry for adventure, had other plans. A faint light shimmered in the torchlight he pulled from his pocket as he directed it at the wall under the clock. Lena stayed close to him, one hand clutching the strap of her bag. They entered the deserted waiting room through a tilted door with a rusty sign reading 'Emergency Exit'. Silence pervaded the interior, broken only by the beating of their hearts.
- 'Look, someone once wrote something here,' Lena pointed to the wall under the clock. There were barely visible numbers and a sign similar to infinity engraved there.
Alex put his hand to the wall, wanting to feel the cold plaster. Instead, he felt a strange tingling sensation and a sudden movement of air.
Suddenly, the clock wailed quietly, the hands twitching.
- Can you see that! - Cuba barely got the words out, pointing at the wall, which began to pulsate with blue light. The clock went back to 2:15, and under their feet the floor seemed to shake slightly.
The door behind them slammed shut with a bang. Lena stepped back, but Alex took a step forward. The light of the wall shot towards them, penetrating their friends' bodies like a cool blast. The clock ticked faster and faster.
They felt something pulling at them - something that was somewhere on the border between the world they knew and what might be hiding on the other side of the pulsating wall.
Then everything around them began to change: the colours of the platform dimmed and the familiar shapes of the station blurred as if someone had dipped them in water. A tunnel woven of light and shadows opened up in front of them. When Lena turned to Alex, his face seemed to be both younger and older at the same time, as if time couldn't decide how old they really were.
They took the first step towards the portal. From the other side of the tunnel came a deafening, melodic sound reminiscent of the beating of the same clock, but in another dimension. Just then, before they could say anything, they heard a quiet whisper behind them that they did not understand
