Did You Know?

Passage through the Rusty Door

Passage through the Rusty Door
Ever since the old railway siding was closed at the White Stones, Patrick, Lena and Igor have treated the track as their own forgotten amusement park. There was something appealing about the old metal rails, overgrown with tall grass, and the abandoned carriages that now served as their base for planning exciting excursions. And although everyone in the town told untold stories about the tunnel under the hill, nobody took them seriously after all.... One afternoon, Lena appeared on the tracks with a rucksack in her hand. "I have something for you!" - she said conspiratorially, taking out a torch from her pocket and an old, rusty door handle. "I found it at the entrance to the tunnel. It's quite heavy, as if it fits something. Shall we go in?" Igor had some doubts - the old legends about the tunnel didn't sound very encouraging. Patrick, on the other hand, was looking forward to the adventure. "Sure! If there are ghosts, at most we'll take a picture and post it on the group." The tunnel smelled damp and dusty. The glare of the torchlight barely penetrated the blackness. Walking down the narrow path, the three friends noticed that the walls, covered in graffiti, were slowly turning to smooth, dark grey stone. After a few minutes of walking, a metallic glow shimmered in front. It was a door - massive, low, covered in brown rust and an ancient inscription that none of them could read. Lena pressed the handle against the lock. Surprisingly - it fitted perfectly. As she turned it with slight resistance, something rattled in the mechanism. The air suddenly became cooler. Patrick looked around nervously. It felt like the tunnels behind them had disappeared, turning into an endless darkness. As the door began to slowly swing open, a faint glow appeared behind it. Suddenly, strange symbols flashed on the ground, and eerie sounds came from the other side of the door - as if someone was whispering in a language none of them knew. Lena, Igor and Patrick exchanged glances - one more step, and there might be no turning back. The door creaked wider, and a mist spread from the threshold, in which the outlines of other, completely unknown places appeared....
