Passage in the basement

Passage in the basement
The old school on the Hill was a place that had been intriguing for years - rumour has it that there were labyrinths of corridors under the gymnasium from the days when the building was used as a shelter. Renata, the bravest of the group, organised an evening meeting right there. Everyone came: Max, who was always joking, Karolina, without whom no challenge made sense, Igor, the outsider with the notebook, and Daniel, always sceptical but never able to say no to an adventure. With torches in their phones, they started up the stairs to the basement. The smell of dust and the remains of old posters on the walls gave the place a heavy atmosphere. They whispered, lost in laughter and footsteps, until Karolina stopped in front of a closed metal door. - 'Let's open it,' she whispered, and Max was already fiddling with a hairpin. The lock let go faster than they expected. Behind the door, there was more than just another room waiting. In its centre, on the floor, was a circle - a strange grey tile with engraved symbols that pulsed slightly with a pale light. Above it floated a cold mist. Igor gently ran his fingers over the marks and hissed: - 'I think it's some kind of inscription, but I don't know what language it's in. Daniel muttered: - It's just old graffiti. But Carolina lowered her feet to the cool floor and, after just a moment, placed her whole hand on the centre of the circle. The fog instantly thickened, covering the entire floor. Renata chuckled: - I don't think we should... Suddenly, time in the room seemed to slow down. Everything became quiet - even their own breathing. A gap opened up around them, through which they could see... something else. On the other side there was no cellar, or even any room. There, among the strange, pulsating colours, another reality pulsed. Renata looked at her friends. - Are we going in? At that moment, the portal began to expand, and someone's silhouette appeared beyond its border....
