Nina and the secret of the red tent
A circus with a red tent entered the market square. Drums were beating and a trumpet was playing merrily. Nina held her dad's hand tightly. Everywhere there was the smell of popcorn, candyfloss and hay. Mr Shine, the circus director, bowed to the children. - 'I'd like to invite you all to come tonight, darlings! - he called out. Olek waved a small flag next to Nina.
In the evening, the lights twinkled like little stars. The acrobat Lila flew lightly over the arena. The dogs rode scooters and barked happily. Juggler Max was catching balls, hoops and hats. Nina clapped, but something caught her interest next to her. Underneath the stand was a box with gold stars. On the placard was: Do not open during the show.
The crate vibrated and quietly rattled from inside. Nina looked at her dad, but her dad didn't notice. Mr Flash stepped to the middle and raised his cane. - 'I need a brave helper in the arena,' he called out loudly. The lights dimmed, the drums fell silent, the tent trembled. The box rattled a second and third time, louder. - 'You, Nino,' said Mr Flash and pointed. Then the lid of the crate began to rise slowly.
