In the Echo Forest, surrounding the small town, strange tales had been circulating for generations. Things were said to happen between the trees at night that adults could not see. Karolina, Igor and Lena, three friends from the eighth grade, treated these stories as amusing concoctions. Their carefree attitude came to an end one stormy night when Karolina's beloved dog, Titan, ran out of the house and disappeared without a trace. For the next week, the three of them scoured the neighbourhood. The last paw prints led deep into the Echo Forest, towards a place that even the town's elders avoided after dark. Determined to find the Titan, they agreed to go on an expedition on Friday evening. Each had a torch, a mobile phone and something to snack on, although Lena joked that she was most afraid of her own imagination anyway. The forest was completely different at night than during the day. Everything seemed closer, darker, and the shadows turned on their axis. The birds were silent, and only the sound of branches being broken by the wind and the quiet rustling in the bushes were reminders that the forest was alive. Carolina, though usually tough and rational, suddenly felt uncomfortable when a fox ran right by the path, stopped and looked straight at them, as if to warn them of something. They walked on, among the trees, until Igor noticed a greenish, phosphorescent coat on the ground. The same as Titan had after an evening playing with his new toy, which glowed in the dark. The footsteps led deeper, where the forest was at its densest and the trees grew so close that the torches did not give much light. Suddenly, animal silhouettes emerged from the shadows. Deer, hedgehogs, even an owl, all looked at the children as if they were waiting for something. Lena was already about to call out, but at the same moment a single, drawn-out bark came from deep in the forest. Titan's voice interrupted by a strange, unfamiliar sound.... Could it be that someone - or something - was trying to communicate with him? The friends looked at each other. They were closer to an answer than ever, but what was about to happen could change their view of the animals and Echo Forest forever.
