Night Whisper of the Forest
The forest of Silver Pines has always been surrounded by an aura of something extraordinary. Cool mists drifted just above the ground, tall trees caught the last rays of the sun, and the wind seemed to whisper incomprehensible words. It was here, just outside the small town of Wrześniak, that Kacper, Zuzka and Igor decided to spend the coming weekend.
Everything started to be discussed at school when the biology teacher told a story about one night during which animals can speak with a human voice. Most of the students laughed at the story, but the three friends decided to test it out for themselves. So they set off with backpacks, thermoses and torches, ready to spend the night in the open air.
They pitched their tents by a small pond, where deer and foxes were most likely to congregate. As evening fell, amid the crackle of the campfire and conversations about life and the future, Kacper heard the first disturbing sound. It resembled a quiet, muffled voice, or perhaps laughter somewhere deep in the bushes. Igor, always sceptical, dismissed it with a wave of his hand, but Zuzka momentarily stood up, staring into the darkness with interest.
They took a long walk around the pond, getting deeper and deeper into the forest backwoods. The darkness grew thicker and thicker, and each of their steps seemed strangely loud against the backdrop of silent nature. At one point, a low, snarling voice rang out from behind the dense ferns. 'Not everyone who comes here comes back the same.' The friends became motionless and the torchlight stopped on the eyes belonging to a huge badger.
The badger was looking at them penetratingly, and there was something in its gaze that could not be ignored. You could feel a thrill of uncertainty in the air. Was there really an animal standing in front of them that could talk? Or was it just fatigue and imagination?
As the badger slowly slid out of the shadows and repeated, this time more clearly: 'You need courage if you want to know this night.
Just then, between the trees, more glowing blinds began to appear. Kacper felt his heart start to beat faster, Igor lifted his phone's camera, and Zuzka whispered: 'Let's go ... but where to?
Between the trees something moved and suddenly the whole forest stopped breathing, as if waiting to see what they would do next.
