Night in the Wolf's Lair Nature Reserve

Night in the Wolf's Lair Nature Reserve
The Wolf Glade was awe-inspiring even by day, but at night it could really intrigue. Situated on the edge of an old, wild forest, it was home to a pack of wolves that had been the pride of the regional reserve for years. Every summer, a small group of volunteers came here. This year, in addition to the daily care of the animals, four teenagers - Lena, Igor, Basia and Michal - were given the task of monitoring the behaviour of the pack. They were all impressed by the proximity to the wildlife, but at the same time felt a slight tension. Here, every twitch of the wind, snap of a twig or sound of an owl sounded more intense than ever before. One evening, as Lena was reviewing the recording from the cameras set up by the watering hole, she noticed something strange. A shadow moved between the trees - a silhouette larger and sleeker than a wolf, with a tail that didn't match any of the animals they knew. "Look at that," she chuckled to the others, zooming in on the footage. Igor squirmed slightly. "It's probably just a moose. Or a tourist in a hoodie." Basia shook her head. "Moose don't come that close to the herd, and this shadow moves differently. Faster, as if.... looking for something." When they found deep, unusual pawprints on the path next to the fence the next day, Michael felt a thrill of excitement. "We don't have any animals with such prints. It must be something new. Maybe a predator we don't know about?" During the night they could not sleep peacefully. Finally, Lena made a decision: "Tomorrow after dusk, let's try to track this creature. We'll turn on the thermosensors and move cautiously from the southern edge of the forest. Who knows what we will see?" The wait for dusk grew incredibly long. When night finally fell, all four silently listened to the rustle of the leaves and tried not to trample the gravel underfoot. The moon shone brightly, casting silvery patches between the trees. Then, somewhere on the border between light and shadow, there was movement - a flash of eyes, a quiet movement of branches. Lena raised her torch, and the light revealed the silhouette of an animal standing motionless in front of them. Something in its stance made each of them, though they had seen the wolf a thousand times, feel that this encounter would change them forever....
