The rainy evening shrouded the City of Shadows in an impenetrable fog. Evacuated tenements, deserted streets and lamps that vibrated in the wind gave the impression that time had stopped. A small shadow flitted by the gate of the old cinema - it was Shelah, a black magpie with a glittering eye and a clattering, nervous beak. Perched on the windowsill vis-à-vis was Fen, a reddish fox with a noble muzzle and a tail like a flaming torch. He watched Shelma's movements intently - they had a task. Rumours had been circulating among the animals in recent days: someone or something was kidnapping their friends. Cats were disappearing from rooftops, rats from burrows, even dogs were silent by the fires lit in the ruins of warehouses. - Can you see anything? - crossed her wings Shelma, keeping her eyes on the gate leading into the courtyard. Fen nodded his head. - 'There's someone out there. But it's not a human. Too many shadows, not enough footsteps. Suddenly, they both heard whimpering. A three-legged female dog, Misha, emerged from behind a wall. Her fur was ragged and fear lurked in her eyes. - They are everywhere. - whispered Misha. - Just don't look in the windows. It attracts their gaze. Fen and Shelm looked at each other uncertainly. - 'We need to find out who's behind this. - Fen said, though his voice was trembling. In the distance, a red light flashed in the empty windows of the tallest building. Something unnaturally tall, silent and ... furry. Shem froze. Fen held his breath. Misha ran a few steps and hid in the shadows. - 'If we want to keep our place in the City of Shadows, we have to go TAM. - whispered Fen, pointing to the light. They pulled themselves together and set off, unsure if they could make it back before it was too late....
