Night in the City of Foxes
In an old, overgrown park on the outskirts of the city, life went on with its own rhythm. Few people knew that the park came alive after dark, with small, skilful foxes flitting among the shadows. They were their own community, with clearly established rules. The eldest, Rust, was shady and clever, and his niece, Ore, was reputed to be the most imaginative. Next to them was Fluffy, who often got himself into trouble, but no one knew the park better than he did. One cold night, as the mist hung low to the ground, they all met in their hiding place under an old maple tree. The park seemed peaceful, but something had been wrong for several weeks - two young hedgehogs and a magpie named Bell had disappeared. The animals had become afraid to go out after dark.
"Maybe it's just a coincidence that they disappeared?" - asked Fluffy, nervously moving the tip of his tail.
"There are no coincidences," replied Ore. "Someone or something has appeared here. We need to find out what's going on."
Rustling looked at them alertly. "But we have to be careful. No one knows what lurks in the darkest corners of the park."
That evening they decided to start their own investigation. They were joined by Koko the owl, who could see more from above than anyone else, and old hedgehog Goose, the fastest at digging tunnels.
As the four foxes swooped under the fence and Koko flew over them almost silently, they felt a thrill of excitement. They headed for the southern part of the park, where the ground was soft with fallen leaves and the air was permeated with old smells. Suddenly Koko swooped down right in front of Ore.
"There, under the bridge! Someone is creeping!" she whispered, pointing with her wing.
In the darkness, under the arch of the old bridge, yellow eyes flashed. The foxes stopped motionless, flexing their muscles to jump. The gawk pressed into the leaves and Coco spread her wings, ready to fly. The mysterious figure lurked, clearly waiting for them to move.
The redhead gathered her courage and whispered: "It's now, we need to see who it is..."
At that moment, the quiet snap of branches shattered the silence, and the yellow eyes disappeared into the thickening mist.
