Did You Know?

Night at the Old Cinema

Night at the Old Cinema
It was a deep night when Lena, Krzysiek, Ola and Bartek stood in front of the old facade of the disused "Cyclops" cinema. The building had already been abandoned for many years, but it still caused excitement among the townspeople. Some claimed that quiet whispers sometimes came from the dark screening room, others swore they saw strange shadows in the windows. The friends, thirsty for a stronger experience, decided to check it out for themselves. Through a hole in the fence they slipped into the courtyard. Young trees leaned against the wind, leaves rustled underfoot. Lena pulled a torch from her backpack and illuminated the rusty side door. The hinges squeaked when Bartek pushed them hard with his elbow. There was a musty smell inside, dust dancing in the beam of light. They all felt a shudder, but none of them wanted to back out. They quietly entered the lobby, passing dusty film posters from the 1980s. Ola looked at them curiously, while Krzysiek, clutching a torch phone in his hand, led the group onwards - into the main hall. There, in the shadows of the rows of long-disused armchairs, an almost impenetrable darkness reigned. After a while, Bartek noticed that someone had set up an old film camera on the stage. The lens glinted in the torchlight, as if looking straight at them. Lena moved closer to the camera, and at that moment there was a sound like a quiet clatter somewhere on the balcony. All four of them froze. Was it just the wind, or was it someone or something watching them? Krzysiek raised his torch higher, trying to catch the source of the noise with his eyes. Then, from behind the curtain on the stage, a stifled whisper came to them. Bartek, despite the mounting tension, clenched his fists and moved towards the stage, with the rest of his friends following close behind. Suddenly, the torchlight fell on something unexpected: a figure was sitting motionless in a red, shabby chair. Her face was obscured by an old hat, her hands rested on the armrest, and next to her on the floor something gently glittered. Lena took a tentative step forward, feeling her heartbeat quicken - and then the figure slowly raised its head....
