Night Adventures in the Tree House

Night Adventures in the Tree House
Basia and Philip really enjoyed spending time together. One summer evening they decided that they would sleep in a tree house that Philip's dad had built. The house was tucked high up between the branches of an old oak tree. Basia took a torch and her favourite pillow, and Philip took a warm blanket and Kazik's teddy bear. In the evening, when Mum brought them cocoa, the sky was already dark blue and the stars began to twinkle above their heads. Through the little window of the cottage, Basia watched what the garden looked like at night - everything was different from the daytime. Shadows danced across the grass, and a small bird sat sleepily snoring on the third branch. Suddenly, as they were both trying to fall asleep, they heard something very strange. First a quiet thud, thud, then a slight rustling. Basia's torch began to glow less brightly, so Philip quickly shook it to give more light. - 'Do you hear that? - whispered Basia. - Yes... - replied Philip a little frightened, but also curious. The sound was getting louder and louder. Something seemed to be slowly climbing up the tree, approaching their cottage. The torchlight began to tremble. Suddenly, there was a strange shadow outside by the window - someone or something was looking inside! Basia and Philip made big eyes and squeezed their hands tightly. Who or what could have visited them in the middle of the night?
